This illustrated book tells the story of a sex worker’s life. Based on life-history interviews with sex workers in Karnataka, it follows her through her experiences of childhood, marriage, sex work, work as an HIV peer educator, and her role as an organizational leader. She talks about falling in love, about her experiences with the police, about losing her husband to HIV, about her relationships to her children, and about growing old. Her story offers a rich account of struggle, violence, resilience, and solidarity.
